What makes you come alive?

Don't ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.

Writer, philosopher, activist and educator Howard Thurman said this quote. These words found me the other day and I promise I heard a roar in my soul.

Because this is a question I have never been asked.

It has me thinking, still, about the answer.

Sadly for many of us, what makes us come alive is not always what we do on a daily basis at our home or at work.

Usually what makes us come alive are not the things we make time for. We tend to prioritize that activity that pays the rent and our food, which is perfectly understandable. I mean I get it, I also have bills to pay and food to buy. However, if we think about it, how do you feel right after you do the things that give you that extra oomph in your life?

How do you feel after playing that game or practicing your favorite sports?

How do you feel after that hike or preforming your favorite song?

There are many possibilities here.

For me, traveling is something that truly makes me come alive. Getting to experience different towns, cities and countries makes me feel connected to the life around me. Hearing different languages and seeing how diverse and special we humans are its fascinating. Finding hidden gems and discovering old buildings is also quite amazing!. But viewing the landscapes and being part of the local festivities or celebrations when you are away enjoying a new place (or even an old one!) it's honestly one of the best forms of connection I can think of, both to nature and people.

Another thing that makes me feel giddy even when thinking about it is creating meaningful connections with people through words, written or spoken. This website makes me come alive, sharing my passion does that for me.

What makes YOU come alive?

It can be something like hiking or running, swimming or dancing. Maybe volunteering or teaching a class. Maybe even just sitting in nature and soaking in the light or enjoying the crisp air.

Whatever it is, make time for that special something. Give yourself the permission to make time for what recharges your energy and makes you feel more like YOU.

If you are still figuring it all out, I recommend the following:

*Make a list of the work, activities and/or people that inspires you*

Play around and try new things from that list. Listen closely and feel your way through this quest of finding out your answers.

And if you feel like it, please share them in the comments.

Good luck and I'll see you on the next one!
