Girls and women. We want to be liked. We want to be trusted. So we down play our strengths to avoid threatening anyone and invoking disdain. We do not mention our accomplishments. We do not accept compliments, we temper, qualify and discount our opinions. We walk without swagger and we yield insensibly. We step out of the way. We say "I feel like" instead of "I know". We ask if our ideas make sense instead of assuming they do. We apologize for EVERYTHING…. We want to be respected, but we want to be loved and accepted even more…
This is an excerpt from Glennon Doyle's Book "Untamed". The first time I listened to Glennon's voice saying these words felt like the world stopped and demanded my attention.
I heard what I've been doing all my life and for some reason I felt ashamed yet at the same time, hopeful.
Shame came over me like a ton of bricks because "I should know better and do better, always". That's what my painfully insatiable ego wants me to believe. However, hope arrived almost immediately after to let me know why this serves me.
Now I can start healing these parts of me and recognize my own wildness.
The beauty of the mess.
The wisdom that comes with not knowing and making a mistake.
The value of OWNING my value.
Not being afraid to let people see who I am. What I believe. What I desire.
Thanks for reading, I hope you are having a safe and peaceful day.
See you in the next post!
