Happiness and Sustainability

Get ready with me for Earth Day!!!!!

This morning I was pleasantly surprised by the newsletter I got on my email from the United Nation's Sustainable Development Solutions Network talking about this event they're having on April 22nd to celebrate Earth Day.

The connection between Happiness and Sustainability. This is what is all about for me and is exactly the idea behind the BySS Blog, how exciting!

The Happiness and Sustainability Around the Earth webinar is an all-day event where networks from various countries will be discussing issues like well-being, happiness and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Remember those 17 Goals that were created to ensure basic human rights for all? Including topics like clean water, access to decent education and secure gender equality.

If you don't remember, please check out my previous posts:

Now that you've read a bit on the 17 SDGs we can dig deeper into the Happiness and Sustainability event.

Did you know that only around 10% of people know about the SDGs?

This highlights the importance of addressing this global initiative, right? We should be educating our families and kids on these goals and help people understand their use in our every day life. Because if we can make sense of them on a personal level, we are more likely to implement them in our daily routines and make some changes for ourselves.

This is one of the reasons why we should participate in this event. This initiative will use happiness (something all people strive for) as a lens to discuss sustainable development in a more inclusive, accessible, practical and easy-to-understand formula.

Why Happiness?

Happiness knows no ethnicity, race, financial status, education or nationality. Happiness is something all people want to have in their lives. According to the United Nations:

Happiness is relevant across all cultures and intellects.

But on the other hand, is also important to mention what the World Health Organization states:

Depression is the leading cause of disability worldwide, and is a major contributor to the overall global burden of disease.

This is not only important as a global economic indicator on a report somewhere. This speaks about each of us. Our friends, families, even you perhaps who are going through struggles or stress. Your well-being and how you feel on a daily basis is important. Now more than ever, the United Nations recognizes this as a fundamental issue and is working with countries to create a positive impact in our lives.

I invite you to join this Earth Day Celebration and watch the webinar. Put it in your calendar and learn something new on your country's agenda on the 17 SDGs. What is your country doing in terms of these goals and what are the main challenges for each of us?

Remember, April 22nd, 2020.

Have a good one and I'll see you in the next one!
