European Green Deal

Back in December 2019 the European Commission published the European Union's (EU) ambitious strategy for achieving the United Nations' 2030 Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals:

The Green Deal is a new growth strategy that aims to transform the EU into a fair and prosperous society, with a modern, resource-efficient and competitive economy where there are no net emissions of greenhouse gases in 2050 and where economic growth is decoupled from resource use.

Here's a short video that explains quickly and easy what the Green Deal is about:

What do you think?

Challenging, right?

That was my first reaction as well. Nevertheless, a strategy as ambitious as the European Commission is fighting to implement, must be just like that. It has to tackle all major environmental issues that mankind has created. Because as we know by now, there is no turning back. We have caused severe damage to our water, our air and our natural resources.

The European Green Deal provides a framework for international collaboration, green funding, research, innovation and sustainability across all sectors.

The European Union seeks to become the first Carbon Neutral Region by 2050 by focusing on a "sustainable green economy":

Through financial and technical support, the European Commission will enable collaboration amongst member countries and other entities interested in applying sustainability initiatives to improve their environmental performance. The EU budget will play a key role.

We are already seeing the results of international collaboration projects, like the one I mentioned in my last post on Economía Circular en México (Circular Economy in México).

I will be presenting more on these strategies in later posts, but for now, I'll leave you with the website Actions being taken by the EU where you'll find more information about the Green Deal.

If you have any requests or topics you'd like me to write about, please let me know in the comments.

See you in the next one!
